S.P.R. Centre was formed in 1969 by David Bland
as Southern Pullet Rearers.

We were the first to provide the 'small, inclusive package' deal, which involved not only supplying the poultry,     but also the poultry house, run, feed, equipment and expertise and all at a discounted price.

Poultry for the Garden book

Our first poultry houses were bought in bulk from a major shed manufacturer, but as the business became more secure, we decided to design and produce better quality houses   than those already available on the market.

Poultry advice in those early days tended to be repetitive, and so David Bland decided to write a compact poultry advice book called Poultry for the Garden. This book has now been reprinted for the third time to comply with  European weights and measures, whilst still retaining the old British measurements for easy translation. It is probably the only book which has stood the test of time, being as popular today as when it was first published.

The next extension of the business, was to design and build larger free range poultry houses for new commercial producers, who were setting up their own free range enterprises.

S.P.R. Ranger Poultry House

                                                            These poultry houses
  later became known as

    The S.P.R. Ranger Series.

In addition to providing for commercial producers, full consultation on all aspects of poultry farming are given to any prospective buyers. This means the smaller customer (buying on average 6 birds) is well looked after, and we still offer friendly practical advice   if a problem occurs, no matter how small.

In late1998, products which were successful as flea and louse repellents were withdrawn from the market due to over regulation by the EC, and were replaced by a number of poor quality lice and flea repellents.

Because of this confusion in the market place regarding repellents, S.P.R. Centre launched its own natural louse powder, the aptly named Eradicate. This is a natural product, made  up of piperonal, tea tree oil and cedar wood oils. The base is very finely ground maize so that it will stay in birds feathers, or animal fur for several weeks.

While these natural ingredients don’t actually kill, they will repel all lice and mites from feathers or fur, dying once separated from their chosen host.
