SPR was formed in 1969 as Southern Pullet Rearers.

SPR were forced to change direction and were the first to produce the small inclusive package deal, which involved supplying not only the poultry but the house, run, feed and equipment and expertise at a discounted price. Poultry Houses were first bought in bulk from a major shed manufacture. but as the business became more secure it was decided to design and produce a better quality house than was available on the market. Advice in those early days tended to be repetitive and so it was decided to write a compact Poultry Book called “ Poultry for the Garden”. This book has now been rewritten for the third time, complying with the European weights and measures while retaining old British measurements for easy translation. It is probably the only book which has stood the test of time, being as popular today as when it was first published.

The next extension of our business was to design and build larger Free Range Poultry Houses for new commercial producers setting up their own Free Range Enterprises. In addition, full consultation on all aspects of Poultry farming are provided to prospective buyers. The smaller customer buying on average 6 birds is still looked after, with friendly practical advice if a problem occurs however small.

Late 1998 SPR, because of the confusion over repellents as successful as Flea and Louse products were withdrawn from the market to over regulation by the EC, and the many poor quality lice and flea repellents which took their place.

SPR launched its own correctly named “ERADICATE”. This is a natural product made up of piperonal, tea tree and cedar wood oils. The base is very finely ground maize so that it will stay in the feathers or fur for several weeks.

While the ingredients don’t actually kill, these natural ingredients employed actively, repel all lice & mite from the feathers or fur, dying once separated from their chosen host.
